Source: Tri-County News, Jan 16, 1958

Aunt Mary WEAVER, who was 102 last July 8, died Saturday Jan 11, 1958 at the home of her daughter, on RR6, Terre Haute. Mrs. Weaver who was a half-sister of Charley HOWELL of Montezuma was born July 8, 1855, a few years before the Civil War began. She lived with her husband, who was a shoe cobbler, on a farm near the Rockport Bridge in the northern part of Parke Co until her husband died in 1921. Since then she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Harry DEAN in Vigo Co. A seamstress of considerable ability, Mrs. Weaver pieced many quilts until failing eyesight at the age of 98 forced her to give up the work. An attack of whooping cough at the age of five had left her a deaf mute, though she was able to overcome the handicap. She is survived by the daughter; 12 grandchildren, one of whom is the Rev. Harry Howell, pastor of the Bridgeton Baptist Church; a stepbrother Charley Howell of Montezuma; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Harriet Harvey of Hammond and Mrs. Mattie Bolton, Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services were held at Thomas Funeral Home, Terre Haute, Monday and burial was in Roselawn Cemetery.
